Our Bushfire Involvement

Local Bushfire Appeal by Rotary

With the horrific bushfires in Tasmania our Club decided to get involved and start an Appeal to raise money for the victims. Contacts have been made with Rotary Clubs in the affected areas and they will look after the fair distribution of the money raised so that 100% of any money donated will reach the victims. The appeal will run during the period of 13 January till Australia Day - 26 January.
To date (24 January 2013) we have raised over $11,000!

The Gan Gan Lookout is well known landmark in Nelson Bay, popular with tourists as it offers a grand view of the Tomaree Peninsula and the bay. Unfortunately over the years the lookout and the access to it had been neglected and started to look a bit shabby. The Rotary Club of Nelson Bay applied for a community grant with Port Stephens Council and in close cooperation with council worked on refurbishing the site.
The refurbished site was officially opened on Monday 10 December 2012 by the Mayor of Port Stephens, Bruce Mackenzie in company with Craig Bauman (member for Port Stephens of the NSW State Parliament).
Come and have a look at what we accomplished - and... we had a lot of fun and fellowship getting it done! That is what Rotary is all about: helping the community and having fun doing so.
The refurbished lookout is a great asset for the area and a "must" for visiting tourists.
Positive comments  can be found on the internet and in the press.
