This site was built with "communication" in mind - especially the communication within the club. It consists of two parts:
- The public section of the web site gives general information: who and where we are, when we meet and what is on each week. Also the weekly bulletins are in the public section. We have items on current and long term projects the Club is involved with and there is a link to our picture gallery where everyone can see that Rotary is Fun!.
- The members section of the web site is accessible by user name and password. All financial members are registered users and also the Honorary members and some District Officials can have access to this section. Apart from a detailed list of all members (with phone numbers, home address, email addresses and birthdays, wedding anniversaries and more) members can apologise on line or enter details about make ups. We also openened the facility to pay dues and other payments on line per credit card or PayPal. More facilities and options can be added when necessary - And... birthdays and anniversaries are published when on.
The web site was built around a content management system named Mambo and is coded in PHP. It uses over 40 tables in a MySQL database to keep track of data. The appearance of the site can be changed fairly easily by using different templates and color schemes. Maintenance is simple: there is not much the webmaster needs to do. New articles can be submitted and edited by members and directors with the appropriate access level - both from the front end or the back end administrator section. Once the site is up and running further coding or HTML like editing is reduced to a minimum. Access rights can be set at various levels.
Other Rotary Clubs, interested in this site and its facilities are invited to contact the webmaster. We intend to make this site a possible "earner" for our club.
